the hunger games is a really good example bc on the base textual level of stuff like what happens and the order of events they got it mostly right but they also
whitewashed half or more of the cast
removed multiple canonical disabilities in main characters
marketed it as a love triangle
basically did literally everything the villains of the book did which made it super fucking obvious

Miles dad and uncle were amongst his biggest supporters and it was the words his dad spoke to him that pulled him out of his rut. If you wanna make wearing the mask a metaphor about identity than realize it has less to do with being gay or closeted but it’s about finding your place in the world, taking risk, being comfortable.

And to clarify lgbt headcanons are great, I headcanon Miss as bi myself, but the post I’m referring to just tries to straight up erase Miles as a person of color for the sake of making Spiderverse into a metaphor for being lgbt when those things are not exclusive to each other.
